Changing circular saw blades

Alot of saws new and old dont have a motor lock to change the blades and most new blades do not have a hole in the blade to stop it so what is the answer for changing a blade. I dont want to jamb something into the carbide tips and risk ruining a blade

On my table saw I jam a piece of softwood into the blade to hold it in place while I loosen the arbour nut, never damaged a carbide tip. If a tip is so delicate that jamming a piece of softwood into it would loosen it I wouldn't want to spin the blade or cut with it. If I recall my circ saw has a blade lock, don't use it a lot or change blades on it often.

I hit my tool with a rubber hammer or hammer handle while holding the block of wood. A few hard taps when tightening it too.

I've got a plywood push stick. I just wedge it between the saw blade and the table top. Any piece of wood will work but the push stick always seems to be handy.

The stick I use has magnets imbedded in it to attach my arbor wrench so it's handy and a Philips screwdriver bit in the end to remove/install my zero clearance insert.

For some reason I own a piece of molded orange plastic made I think by black and decker. It ha s groove in the middle length wise. It is designed for the arched groove to sit over the blade and be pushed down by hand to lock the blade from turning. Works fine for 10" blades not much grip on a 14" blade.

I use this for angle grinders. Skillsaws just get a block of wood, they're always around. Works on a table too.

And the Nut does not have to be super tight, as it is reverse of the blade direction.

I unplug the saw, take a 1x4 scrap and block the blade. You should then be able to loosen the blade nut with water pump pliers.

Yes, when I tighten the blade I just hold the blade with my hand, no need to use the wooden stick.
