Daughter came by all day. Wife at her father's house, he's terminal. Home alone for New Years. Plan on starting on a Shaker Style Hall table tonight. But before I fix dinner, the call of the lathe lured me into the shop. Results attached. Can you quess the material?

Very nice and kudos to you if it is what I think it is and that is some Palm. I have turns some, not pens but small items, and have a friend that has tryied his hand at penn fron red and black palm with no luck so great job!!!

looks alot like oak

The pens I recently posted were oak also
I really did not like working with it

what did you use to finish it ?

Mine looked like crap the next day after shineing like glass right off of the lathe

I'll go with Red Palm too. Whatever it is, it looks great!
(Heck, it takes me 45 minutes just to find the lathe!)

Good quess on the palm. I have no idea which species?, just happened to be in the local toy (wood) store, saw the blanks and said "why not". I really like the look, and have 4 blanks left. Maybe tomorrow I'll turn them.

rough (whatevers at hand), 220 3m sanding sponge, hut polish, (2 coats), 1800, 3000, wipe, hut, 8000. Takes about 5-10 minutes.
