Rockler 15 inch-pound Lid-Stay Torsion Hinge Lid Support is too heavy duty for what I'm trying to do: prop open a very light (less than 2 lb), thin stock lid. Any of the Rocklers will result in the lid (24" deep) getting snapped in half before I over come the torsion required to close the lid. Lid stays that mount on either side are out of the question in this build, this has to be a hinge. Looking on Woodcraft and Rockler, not seeing anything for small applications. Surely you jewelry box makers have found a solution?

I use Brusso Stop Hinges. They are not cheap and to do it right you will need 2 templates that are also not cheap and it does take some doing to do it. They have instructions on their site you can look at before getting them. But they are an excellent hinge.

What about something like these

Lee Valley has various sizes and shapes of quadrant hinges and lid stays. Open the "hinge" page under hardware.

Here are two quality hinges with stays.. I have used the smart box hinge and they are a great hinge ... but both come at a price, and are easyer to install than any quadrant hinge.
