Disston Panel saw rehabbed

Estate Sale Disston saw...

A bit rusty...with a skew back...

Cleaned it all up ( will take it to my Sharpening service, later...hard to see 10ppi teeth..)

Still trying to bring out the etch...Henry Disston & Sons. On one side of the Keystone ( with the scales) is KEYSTONE, on the other side...SAW WORKS. Below the Keystone, PHILADELPHIA USA
Below that....CAST STEEL 7 WARRANTED
Still trying to read what is below that..

Handle was cleaned up, and soaked in BLO for a while...then Gunstock oil stain....and the brass was polished up..

Take it off the handle....80 grit in a palm sander( do NOT press down hard) repeat with worn out 220 grit. Wipe down each time....stay away from the teeth....

There wasn't any pitting going on, just surface rust.

the area you have circled in the 4th pic at the heel of the saw
with the diagonal line going to the toothline. To your knowledge is that factory
or user done? I have a Disston with split nuts and the "Inch-Worm" stamp
that has the same profile (or very similar). Can't see a PPI number stamp on mine.

I have similar saw except it came with a nub of a handle and now it has a curly maple handle and new brass saw nuts.
I took it to circle saw had it re-toothed and it has a new life.

That is a factory ppi stamp....or, what is left of one....the 1 is gone, and some of the 0 as well....saw MIGHT have been sharpened a few times...

I must have been unclear as to my question in the previous post made to this thread.
Hope the image inserted explains what I'm getting at. Have seen old Disstons on the bay
which look like Steven's saw and the "Inch Worm" stamped example I have.

So do you think that this saw was meant as a Mitre Box saw?

The last couple of inches in the tooth line, never cut anything. So, Disston and others cut the "excess" steel off....makes the saws a bit lighter, saves Disston a bit of steel per saw. Scraps being sent back to the furnaces and remade into more plates...They still priced the saws the same....just made more $$$ for the saw maker.
