How many of you actually use the depth of cut adjustment on your SCMS? How much do you need this on a miter saw? Are there dado sets that fit (safely) on 10" & 12" miter saws?

Thanks,

Monte

I used my depth stop on my Hatachi scms last week to put a rabbits on the top of pieces of door jamb stock (1X6) that was 7 ft long. It was real quick, easy, accurate and safe.

Very seldom do I use it.

I don't believe they make dado sets for them.

I used mine once but I can't remember why anymore.

I use mine to cut the waste off tenons some times. I usually follow that up with some clean up from a shoulde plane, but I do use it. Works great on my 12" Dewalt.

As I recall, the only time I ever used my depth of cut adjustment on the SCMS was to set it the first time I set up the saw. I have never used it to cut a dado or rabbet. I am not aware of any dado sets that will fit a SCMS.

I have a Dewalt 12" scms, and use from time to time. When you need it , it is very handy. Wouldn't be without this feature.

Alrighty, thanks for the replies everybody!

So I take it the primary use for this depth of cut setting would be when you just need to nibble/shave a rabbet or dado a hair wider/deeper (or just doing a quick one-off job) and don't want to haul out the router and guide(s)? Is that about the size of it?

Thanks,

Monte
