I've been looking at the Wen track saw (WEN CT1065 10-Amp 6.5-Inch Plunge Cut Sidewinder Circular Track Saw). It's only 115.00 dollars and I'd only be using it occasionally so I'm thinking of getting it. Does anyone have one? if so what do you think about it.

I'm not familiar with that saw but you might find a higher quality blade is necessary (just based on the price), plus tracks.
Not sure what the final cost will be but that's the number to compare with other options. Makita track saw kits go on sale from time to time at crazy low prices.

I have had the Wen for about a year now and have 2 sections of track. The saw works great with the exception of the blade that comes with it and the ends of the track are not square. I trimmed the ends of the track so they fit square and I replaced the blade with a better Wen blade and it is like a different saw, works great. I would not hesitate to buy it again.

I'd love a Makita but the cheapest I can find it for is $429.00

Thanks, it seems like an ok option that is a lot cheaper then the other similar saws.

I’ve been happy with my Makita but it sound like the Wen w a better blade & squared off tracks works fine and is considerably less expensive. Think you have a...Wenner. Couldn’t help myself there

A year ago, Izzy Swan did a review of the Wen track saw on YouTube here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDc5lGq1ghs).

The amount of power (in Amperage) consumed indicates the cutting capacity of a given motor.

Most saws benefit from a better quality blade; they cut easier and smoother with a dedicated replacement.

A CPO Makita is about the same price.

um...............no it’s not.

Almost no one can touch a $115 price point. Even if you spend another $50 on a blade.

Thanks, sounds like it's not perfect but pretty good for the money.

You're right. The Makita is $11 cheaper.

The link is not a track saw.

I think the Wen is the cheapest, at least that I've seen. They have good prices on track too but no long (>100 inches) track. Still it's a good alternative at the low end. I used a Wen blade on my table saw for awhile and it was good for the price too. They may not put a great blade on this track saw but they make some decent blades.

Jim , perhaps you should view Scott's link and familiarize yourself with a track saw. Because your cpo link is not a tracksaw at all , and makes it seem like you have no idea what you're talking about.

This is the makita track saw that cpo currently has:

and the track it rides on :

Really.

Wen sells the track separately.
The factory blade supplied by Wen is disposable.

FYI - I've been using my Porter Cable (Chinese made) since 2011 on the Eurekazone track.

Plunge cutting is nice for marketing purposes but what matters at the end of the day is cut depth and finish.

Plunge cutting is not just for marketing purposes. If you want to make an L shaped cut, for instance, plunge cutting, very accurately, is just about a necessity. I agree quality of cut (finish) is more important, however, and adequate depth of cut for what you want to do is also very important. I haven't really needed to make a long cut where I would use the track saw greater than it's 2 inch depth of cut. That is the depth of cut on the track.

I think most if not all of the people who argue a circular saw is equivalent haven't used a track saw. I used to think the same way. They will do more than I used to think.

Not the same thing at all . And you neglected to tell anyone else that was what you were basing your suggestion on. No one is a mind reader around here.

Plus, your link is still not cheaper than the Wen. Matters not whether Wen sells their tracks separately - everyone does. Including the inventor of the category - Festool. Seems like you're implying that's a bad thing too. It's not. Scott can buy the Wen tracks, or get Makita's or Festool's in the length(s) that suit him. They all have disposable blades too, incld. your PC and that Makita. Some get disposed of faster than others, but they all go in the bin sooner or later. Besides, you need at least two blades with any tracksaw because the ones that crosscut ply don't rip solid wood worth a darn.

What matters to you may be depth of cut, but not everyone cares. Besides, 7 1/4" doesn't cut all that deep either. By far and away most plunge saw users are cutting sheet goods at 3/4" thickness. Which is easily handled by plunge track saws of all flavors.

If you wanna compare depth, better get on of these:

and if you wanna be the big kid on the block, a beam saw is what it takes:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077SJGDWS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B077SJGDWS&linkCode=as2&tag=rrbuildings09-20&linkId=bd2599240b5154f14b46d99efea03a80

While plunge cutting may not appeal to you, for some people it's quite handy. Like appliance, sink or other trapped cutouts. Or when you make a non through cut or want to remove the saw from the cut.

Now, none of this may appeal to you; and that's fine. But at the end of the day no one can touch Wen on price for a new track/guided circ. saw. Except maybe Rube Goldberg & Co..

I think most if not all of the people who argue a circular saw is equivalent haven't used a track saw

Yep. and they usually balk at the cost. Which I think is why/how EZ got started in the first place.

I have the wen track saw, works excellent, as well as other more expensive saws. I bought the makita tracks to go with it and purchased a makita blade. take the anti-kickback dial off of it, and it slides easier.
