Howdy. Turned this little bowl tonight out of a piece of ash that had a bark inclusion all the way through the center. I was a little nervous about it exploding with Sparky and Ernie's recent posts fresh in my mind. But I wore my faceshield. It's 6" in diameter and 5" high. Finished with deft.

Damn! You're gettin' good John! Looks like you are getting your pieces thinner and thinner. Careful or before you know it you will have more "thin" than bowl.:D

Dang John!! That is a pretty one. I am really liking the before and after shots. I know we all said we would do that but you the only one sticking to it. My shop is far away from my camera and I'm way too protective of my camera to leave it in the shop. Great looking bowl though.

Interesting shape with a piece of wood with a lot of character. Well done!

Thanks everyone!! My latest drive is on for a good consistent thin wall. The Sorby comes in handy for that with the round scraper blade. It really offers some control in that respect. Just gotta get over the fear of going "just a little deeper".

By the way...On a finishing note. I think I'm going to stop using Deft. Stinks up the whole house! ;)

John that looks great. Deft does smell the place up but I like the way it finishes. Looks good on this.

John, I like that one. If Rich tunes in again, try using a telephoto lens.

Great lookin' piece of wood, John. I have some Ash and it doesn't have near this much character in it. This really has some nice color, IMO. I like your spherical form! Good work!

Thanks for the pictures!

Great looking bowl from some nice wood. You mentioned the sorby tool, are you using the sorby swan necked tool?

OH NO! I am going blind! I got a new computer for Christmas and now I can't see some of the pictures in the posts. No pictures show up for me John but, knowing you, they must look great!

Hi Curt!
Thanks! The Sorby is the Hollowmaster. Someone on this forum (And I still don't know who) Sent me this tool anonymously...signed "Secret Santa" in early December. I've since then been trying to master it...no easy chore for a goofball such as m'self!! :)

Thanks again everyone for your overly kind comments! I've decided that I'm going to fill those voids with the coffee ground epoxy stuff. I'm a little skeered that they might crack further. Although....filling the voids probably won't help much in that regard. But I'll try. :) :)
