Man, if a story like this doesn't choke you up, I don't know what will. Teddy Sheean was an 18 year old sailor on an Aussie ship during WW-II. When ordered to abandon ship, this brave 18 year old lashed himself to his gun and literally kept firing even after he went under water. He was finally awarded the Victoria Cross, Australia's highest honor LINK (https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/08/13/australia/australia-world-war-ii-hero-medal-intl-hnk-scli/index.html)

Frederick,
I don't know your sage, but I was in elementary school during WWII. I had uncles in that war and remember when I saw a cartoon showing a cannon firing a round and for the first time knew what cannons were. I have never been the same since.

... I have never been the same since.

I don't think any of us who remember that time have been.

At the time, Australia was part of the British Commonwealth. The Victoria Cross is the highest award for valour in the Commonwealth, and I believe the V.C. awarded posthumously would have been by Britain.
