A few days ago I posted my very first box turned from apple. At that time Dennis Peacock remarked that every time he turned apple it was full of cracks and splits. I would guess this box is representative of what Dennis is talking about.
It showed no cracks or splits when I began the turning process but they appeared as I turned. There were no severe affects from the crack save the necessity to be very careful while sanding and finishing.
This box is 2 1/2" in diameter and 3" tall. Once again the wood came from my good buddy Dick Parr. Thanks Dick!:D :D

Looks good Mike. I love to turn apple and peach but they do seem to crack. I have some dry peach if you want to try it.

Cracks or not Mike, that's a real beauty. Actually I like the cracks.

Now I like that one Mike, kind of reminds me of the box I got from you at the BBQ. Very nice job.:)

Looks like a mushroom cap. And looks good too.
Mike - Have you ever done threads on a box? If so, a piece like this would make a very snappy looking salt shaker.

Mr. Big Mike, I really like the form on this one. Shame about the cracks but they do add character:) :)

Nice box, I'm having the same problem with Avacado. If I don't get it roughed turned it starts to get those same splits/cracks.

Another BM dandy! The only Apple I've turned was VERY dry. Out of 4 or 5 small, shallow bowls only one of them developed a crack/split while turning/finishing. I'm not sure what flavor of Apple it was - maybe different from what you guys have worked with.
Thanks for the pics!
