Just finished this project. This is the second of these jewelry boxes that I've made. I posted pics of my first attempt back in Nov. This was for a friend at work for Christmas.
The box is from an American Woodworker article. I really enjoy making these. The main box measures about 9 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 4 1/2. Its mahogany with a spalted maple top. The trays are Bolivian Rosewood and Baltic Birch ply.
For the finish I did 3 coats of shellac and a coat of paste wax. It really turned out smooth. The best finish I've done so far in my short woodworking hobby ;) Thanks for looking!

very nice work. I am planning on building a few for the upcomming valentine's day for LOML. I might have to refer back to you post and copy some of your design.

I bought that issue for the plans for that box! Yours came out really nice. I like the piece you chose for the insert in the top and the trays came out great!

Thanks for the nice words everyone! This was a fun project. Now that I've had two to cut my teeth on, I can make a near-perfect one for the LOML ;)

Very nice looking, but . . . .
on another forum, I am well known for my loathing of the dreaded piano hinge !
That box would be much improved with smaller hinges !!!
Call me wierd if you will, but I HATE PIANO HINGES on any small box !!!
