Turned this spalted Pecan bowl last night, almost blew thru the bottom with my new heavy home made scraper. Roughed out 2 weeks ago, soaked in alchy for a week, then let dry for a week. Finished with Shellac then hand buffed, put on PC desk to take pics. Comments are welcome! Dims are 9 1/2" x 3 3/4"

Nice piece Mike. Looks like a very silky finish. There is a lot to be said for Shellac rubbed out and buffed by hand. There is no other finish quite like it. I keep meaning to order some Ultra Blond dewaxed flakes for just that purpose.

Nice one to be proud of. When you make a pecan bowl you have made something to stay around for a while.

Thanks everyone for your nice words. I Love turning Pecan. I need to get
my longworth chuck repaired or build another, hard to finish the bottoms
with out it. Thanks John, nice to be living again (turning) finished our
annual shutdown at work which meant working 3 weeks with no time off!

I had the pleasure of turning a piece of spalted pecan a while back but my piece was much farther gone than yours and had a pukey yellow color. Yours still retains the natural wood color and looks great. Nicely done, Mike!
