The whisks (meaning the kitchen utensil) that I see for sale at local stores have hollow handles. How are they supposed to be cleaned when food gets inside the handle? Is it standard procedure to pull the wires out, clean, and then put the wires back in the handle?

I've never taken one apart, nor have I heard of such a thing. But then I've never had occasion to get anything particularly sticky up inside the handle. I'd run it through the dishwasher and see what's left.

There are whisks available with solid handles. They are usually more expensive.

In my use of whisks over many years, food has never gotten up inside the handle. If it did it would likely just be thoroughly rinsed out.

I use three different wire whisks for cooking with the "hollow" bodies and I've never had issue with cleaning them, both manually in hot water and in the dishwasher.
