Congratulated myself as I made highly visible location marks on dark walnut parts today with the aforesaid pencil until I found that all the solvents I know are used for "blending".

Can I "blend" away the marks? Or will I blend them visibly into the subsequent finish? Or plane, scrape, sandpaper melt them into the grain?

Shirley there's an easy answer? I can't be the first numbskull to mark on wood with the thing.

One of my favorite erasers for pencil marks is a very sharp very fine set plane.

It should solve your situation.

As Jim said, handplane the surface smooth!

If those are the old ones, they have wax in with the "lead". If so, I'd get it all off with something sharp. I use them too, and usually use a cabinet scraper.

edited to add: I remember using new utility knife blades to scrape it off once. They worked better than you might think they would as little scrapers.

As Tom Suggested, I often use a razor blade as a small scraper...works wonders.

Thanks, guys, much ado about nothing, the scraper took the marks off no problemo.
