As you may know I've been looking for parts for my Stanley #78. I recieved my fence yesterday, so I gave it a try this morning. Here is the result on a scrap piece of poplar 3/8" x 1/4" deep. Once I scribbled paraffin on the shoe it cut like butter. 434317

Good to see you got the plane working.

A sharp blade and a little sole lube works wonders.

It helps to also wax the fence.

If you are right-handed, I promise that the second time you use that tool Jim, the exposed left end corner of the blade is going to nip your left hand, once again proving that "yes, I do know how to sharpen".

Good tool. Has other uses too. I can see lots of rabb(i)ets in your future.

Rabbet planes have bit me a few times. My lesson has been learned.

Strange that most of my blood letting these days isn't caused by sharp steel. Today something in the freezer got me on the back of the hand. It wasn't noticed until seeing the blood in the mirror while in the restroom.
