I am buying the JET AFS-1000B and I'd like to mount it on its side but I'm not seeing anyone else do this.
Has anyone positioned their filter on the side as shown below? Or does anyone know if there is an issue with this (bearings issue with motor or other)?

I mounted that same model sideways on a wall about 10 years ago and no problems.

I had mine that way for a bit. No issues.

If you read the installation manual closely, Jet says sideways is perfectly acceptable, and they include the brackets needed to do so. I have mine mounted vertically in much the same location as your drawing.

Thanks all!! I kept seeing everyone’s install from the ceiling and began to question if there was a reason it couldn’t be placed in a different orientation. It’s a simple device but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.

Pretty much the only reason I'll hang mine from the ceiling is to reduce noise.

I think you want it several inches away from the wall to promote flow.

Make sure gravity will not make the filters fall out.
You may want to rotate the motor 90 degrees so the oil holes are up. You do oil the motor every six months don't you?

Huh? You can oil the motor? Mine is 15 years old and never oiled.
I know a guy that certainly would oil it as instructed. I’ve never known anyone else that replaces his car headlight bulbs when the manual says rather than simply waiting for one to burn out. He pays sticker price for his cars. He never negotiates. Name your price and he will accept or Politely reject.

Many shaded pole motors use sleeve bearings that are supposed to get a drop of oil every six months or year. Some of them have a little plastic plug but the hole does not actually connect. Kind of like the brake terminals on cheap VFD's that are not connected to anything. That said my whole house fan is probably supposed to be oiled but I am good if I vacuum the dust out of the motor every year or two.
