And....not "Fine Furniture". Thought I'd try a few things differently....finger joints were getting boring  And, A different way to do the lid, would save a few slices of stock....so instead of a Double Box sort of thing.....

Anyway, laid out a few pieces...
433753
Resaws were a bit..."off"..we have ways, now...
433754
Takes a while, when just getting see-through shavings.....
433755
Pins first (needs cleaned up) then use them to lay out the tail...
433756
Dry fit, to see if the Stanley No. 18 still fits...
433757
Then set up the stanley 45 to make a groove...
433758
Only one end gets the stopped groove...
433759
Other end will be a bit...different. Groove is for a lid to slide in...
433760
Stay tuned, for more details...:D

Not quite the usual suspects, as far as tools go....
.433761
Wood parts being smaller....marking knife can be smaller, too.
One square set to the thickness of the stock...the other set for the width....the saw?
433762
Seemed to be better suited for this job, than my Disston No. 4. Handle still bothered my hands, though...
Stanley 45 was set up with the skinniest cutter they made for it.....was unable to use the sliding stock...too fat...
433763
Depth set to 1/2 the thickness of the boards, with a bit between the groove and the edge of the board......somewhere in the middle of a pin.....holdfasts used?
433764
Had to bevel the edges of the "lid"...
433765
Test fit.....needed the one end completed...
433766
In order to size the lid for fit...to where it will slide in and out....the other end?
433767
Larger piece will get dovetailed in place....needed to find out how high to make the end, so the lid will slide by. Skinny piece, will make the handle.
433768
A thin Pine blank has been sized to fit the bottom of the box, will just glue it in place.

Today, being a Monday, and Decoration Day to boot, shop is closed .....may start in tomorrow?
Stay tuned....

Waiting on Lunch to settle, and the floor of the shop to dry out....Lots of rain last night....Dungeon Creek was on the rise....may have to go look for a Shop Fan, to keep the shop cool.....starting to get a bit warm and sticky, weather-wise.....hard to do tiny dovetails, with sweat running down my glasses....

Plan is to dovetail the other end, and try for a glue up.....will attach the bottom afterwards....5mm luann plywood scraps I have in the shop, as they don't burn too well in the firepit.

So..maybe a later time, today? In case of the Boss wanting to go "shopping"...

Wasn't a great day in the shop, today.....Monday again?

Was going along nicely, joints were coming together nicely, enough...
433857
Red circle shows where the lid will slide in at. "Concentration, slip away.." and you mind up with ..this..

.433858
And because I went ahead and made the cuts.....I had to re-do both the side piece and the end piece..

Was just about done, one more tail to chop......this part of town had the power go out...and no lights IN the shop.... Ever have one of them days....

433859
More "fun", made the handle for the sliding lid....then trim the lid for length...
433860
Dry fit....which end has the handle?
433861
Made sure the bottom was large enough...because...
433862
Glue and clamps...will add the bottom panel, tomorrow. Lid?
433863
Also got a bit of glue ...and a single clamp.
Made a royal mess of the bench, too..
433864
So, swept the floor, and called it a day..
Stay tuned

Maybe after Lunch, today...I can remove the clamps, clean things up....and then glue the bottom to the box. May just use the vise on the bench as a clamp.....IF I can keep the two parts lined up.

Stay tuned:D

Glued the bottom in place....
433944
And let it sit in here, all day.....then, this evening, out of the "clamp" and do a bit of clean up..
433945
Until things looked good enough for a plain old Pine box..
433946
Then slid the lid open...
433947
Rub a candle along the bevels of the lid....then, to make sure the wax was spread out in the grooves..
433948
Just slide the lid shut, a few times

Letting the stain dry overnight..and will see IF it needs a second coat.
Stay tuned...

And that will be it....cleaning the shop, putting all the toys away....maybe do a bit of sharpening.....no projects to be done, right now

I am recycling old trays....
434040
That I can just stack up on a shelf under the top of the bench...

Just a gent bump....for all those Dovetail threads going on....

Box is sized to hold a Stanley No. 18 Knuckle Cap Block Plane....boards are 3/16" thick Pine....
