I have an outdoor kitchen ERC bar and counter top that is going in for a client, and I'm planning to use the Waterlox marine gloss finish. These will be underneath a patio roof with 90% shade and protection from the elements. (protection from all but windblown rain) Using the project planning tool on their website, they recommend the Universal Tung Oil Sealer as a base coat and the Marine Gloss finish as the top coats.

My local Woodcraft doesn't carry the Universal Tung Oil Sealer, but they have the usual Waterlox Marine Sealer. I'm thinking that's all I really need as a base coat for an even finish--but hesitate due to what the manufacturer is suggesting.

For anyone with more knowledge of Waterlox, what is the difference between the two sealers and would the marine sealer be an acceptable base coat?
