So I have gathered over the years 11 Record planes. I'm was looking at them and noticed 2 of them [No 4 No 7] have brass knobs for the cap lock instead of the lever lock. Just wondering if this affects the planes performance. I only use a couple of the smaller block planes. Thanks Mike O'Keefe

I only have a few planes but I do have a Record 4&5 with the knurled knob. I don’t find it to be an issue. Occasionally, I get some blade movement if I haven’t tightened it enough after sharpening but that’s operator error rather than the planes fault IMO.

There is one notable effect.
The knobs neither break, nor rust.

(There's no mechanical difference, as a fulcrum.)
