I have a 1/4" hex bar 8 1/4" long

and I really do not know how I got it. It is graduated in 1/2" increments.

It is slick looking, but I really don't know it's use. I think it might be used to determine depth of holes
drilled in wood or metal stock. Can anybody confirm my thoughts. It is shiny black.
