Immediately east of me are many many dairy farms. When there is an east wind, there is a bad smell of manure. Fortunately we only have an east wind about 2 days a year.
BUT, I walk my dog up there and there is no particular odor.
So, an east wind smells, the farms don't. How does that make sense?
The county land fill is 10 miles east of me, and it does smell pretty bad, but I would think that is too far away to matter.
