Hello,

I am not really new in this forum but until today when I have presented my Christmas Present I haver never send a post. John Bailey encouraged my to start a new thread and introduce myself and what is more important my workshop.
My location is close to Hamburg / Germany and you will realize my shop is far too small - everything has to be on wheels.

Here we go - thanks http://hw.roesch.de/Bilder/B404.jpg

Oh, it is almost done - thank you for watching. This is my lathe. When I recently bought my Bandsaw (Hammer from Austria) I was really in trouble with space. I am not really keen in turning so the lathe had to go to the garage and I considered to buy a smaller lathe from Jet, Unfortunately my budged is down because of some new LN planes I decided to cut my Scheppach lathe to the size of the small Jet and it works fine for me.

Welcome Bernhard!

Another guy with a small shop, but I think your shop is smaller than mine!

At least you can walk into your shop, not crawl into like my Dungeon workshop!!

Cheers!:)

Bernhard, I'm glad to know that you have the same problem as 99.999% of us: "my shop is far too small" :p

Good to have you around. Looks like, despite the shop size, you have a great setup. What kind of wood do you typically work with being from Germany? I trust that's not a totally ignorant question.

Thank you Jason, indeed the majority has the same problem: The shop is too small and the jointer could be always bigger:p . Sometimes I am really jalous about the two car garage shops in the US....

Regarding the wood I try to work with local wood like oak and beech. Sometimes I used Mahagoni. Attached a picture of a vitrine made of Oak. In the right background a smoking pipe vitrine made of Oak.

Nice shop.. I have the exact same work bench that you have ( Ulmia ) . Very nice bench. Do a lot of Germans do woodworking for fun or hobby ? What type of work do you do for your regular job? I am an engineer / scientist and many engineers also do woodworking for a hobby here in the US. Thanks for showing the shop.

Welcome to the Creek Bernhard! As some of the members with the largest of shops will tell you.....they are always too small! It does look like you have a well stocked shop and have done some very nice projects! Again....Welcome!

Hello Lou and all the other folks
thanks again for the worm words.

Yes the work bench of Ulmia was one of the best you could buy before the company had to give up business and was aquired by Anton Kessler (producer of the ANKE bench). They continue to produce Ulmia but in my opinion they never reached again this quality.

Yes indeed a lot of Germans do woodworking and other work. Some do because it is too expensive to employ a regular company and some (like me) do it for fun as a hobby.

I am employed as a sales person for a chemical company - so no connection to woodworking at all.

Bernhard,

Good post. There are many small shops here at the Creek. Your's look pretty well equiped. I didn't see your bandsaw. Since I'm in the market for one, I'm always interested. Welcome to the Creek.

Welcome Bernhard, and thanks for the tour of your shop. The shop may be small, but you have a nice assortment of tools and you do nice work with them. We look forward to learning more about how woodworking is done in your part of Germany.

Hi Bernhard

Welcome to this forum.

I'm a new member, too. I joined this forum two days ago.

When I immigrated into Canada (from south Germany) over two years ago I bought a new Ulmia bench (from ANKE). The bench is still in the card board box, because I don't have a place for it.

Nochmals, herzlich Willkommen in diesem Forum.

Stefan

Welcome Bernhard from another German (Augsburg, although I have been in the States for many years). Can you put up some more pictures of your projects? Every time I go back to Germany I go to the stores that sell woodworking tools, although I can only buy the non electric tools to bring back.

Welcome Bernhard! I too hope you keep on posting comments and pics here at the Creek. As I'm sure you already know, its a great place to hang about. Like a lot of woodworkers on here, it looks like you do some big work in that small shop.

Welcome again!
