View Full Version : Delta table saw motor burn out?

I've got a Delta table saw, TS300 w/1.5A motor. Last time I fired it up, it smelled strongly of electrical/burning plastic, and there were visible purple flames/arcing occurring near the blade. I wouldn't describe the smell as bad cigar, which I understand is indicative of a capacitor failure. I haven't yet disassembled to see what visible signs there are.

Just based on these symptoms, does this sound like total motor burnout, or is it perhaps repairable? Motor replacement would be nearly $300, probably not what this 16 year-old saw is worth.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Your motor is a universal motor and does not appear to have a capacitor. Most likely your motor is toast. Replacement motors appear to de available but you would probably be better off investing the cost of a motor in a newer saw.

It most certainly is the motor that's gone. Ereplacement parts has one for $274. I would not spend that much to repair that saw.
