I am working on a project where I am planning to use the blum undermount slides in the link below. I have not previously used these slides so I have a question. My cabinet inside depth is 15 3/8" with a 3/4" face frame. I will be doing inset drawers and the slide will mount to the rear of the cabinet. Based on inside of cabinet dimension of 15 3/8" I will have to go with the 12" glides becuse the 15" glides require a 16 1/2" inside dimension, this is a terrible oversight on my part. My question is, can I make drawer boxes that are deeper than 12" with the 12" slides? With side mounts, I would just make the drawer longer if I wanted, but I am not sure with the blum undermounts. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, no.

The depth of drawer box* used with these guides is defined by the distance from the front of the release mechanism to the back of the box. There is a small hook at the back of the guide which engages in a hole in the drawer back.

* - measured from the back side of the drawer 'front' to the back side of the drawer 'back'.

I don't think so; the back of the slide hooks into a hole drilled into the back of the drawer.

If you haven't already bought the slides, consider using Grass Dynapro 3D series (I think the 15" version is F130135005204). Their 15" undermount requires min. depth of 15 7/8 so you should just squeak by. The slides are every bit as nice (nicer, I think) than the Blum.

KV makes a 14" undermount slide. The drawer notches and such are the same as Blum. I think Accuride might also make a 14" too.

If it's a base cabinet against a wall you can cut out the cabinet back and the drywall if you really want the 15" slides to fit.

Actually you can. I’ve mounted deeper drawers by gluing a spacer to the bottom of the drawer so the distance from the outside back of the drawer to the spacer matches the dimension needed for the slide

You can make your drawers long and place the clips further back on the bottom of the drawer. I've done this for some weird specialty applications. You will lose full extension, but gain a little space inside the drawer.

There are places to buy those slides that are much cheaper than Rockler. Try Woodworkers Express

Thank You all for the information. My search is on now to find something hopefully better sized for my application. It looks like the K&V MuV+ in a 14" should work for my cabinet. This is a learned lesson, need to check when using new items to make sure you are utilizing as much of the open space in a cabinet as possible.

Thanks for the heads up George, I just like to reference Rockler because they have the technical documents for their items, I normally buy someplace cheaper.
