Recently ran across some really cool colored wax sticks that can be used in a standard hot-glue gun. And then the challenge was to make some unique wax seals.

These two are my first, in stabilized Buckeye burl and Osage. The “seal” on the right is actually a 1” wide pewter coat button and the one on the left is a 1” Texas star concho, normally used in leatherwork. Hope you like them…comments and critiques are welcomed.

Ed,

I like those stamps a lot.

If you would like the wax seals to have the same positive form as your current stamps you could do this:

-Wax your positive form.

-Build a shallow cylinder around the form (pop can aluminum and twisted wire or hose clamp).

-Pour and knife epoxy liquid steel into the cylinder.

The new stamp will give a positive shape to the hot wax seals.

Keep having fun guy!

Ed,

Where did you get the wax, or what is it called?

Thanks,

Clem

These little wax sticks are used in a normal hot-glue gun and are a snap to work with. Here's a link to the outfit I got mine from (no affiliation):

Very cool Ed! My kids gave me a sealing kit a couple of years ago and I've been meaning to do something like what you've done. Where do you find the seals?

Thanks everyone...

John, Dozens of concho designs can be found at Tandy Leather but I get mine here (cheaper in volume): http://www.sdtradingco.com/conchos.htm

Here are a couple of sources for interesting metal buttons:
