View Full Version : Round corners on router table with board vertical to bit

I wanted to round corners efficiently. I did not want to use a band saw or pattern bit with template. So I made widgets with sharp corners for years and hand sanded a little. I wondered if a Freud Quadra-Cut 1/2" bit would give a good result with the board vertical. With a backer board attached to the miter gauge it did. Very smooth. Is this a common procedure? I have pondered how to round corners on small pieces for years. I tend to overlook obvious things.

Thanks,

Gordon

I'm not sure I am getting the whole picture. Are you talking about doing something like thi (https://tinyurl.com/ulbqhlx)s?

On thin pieces that aren't thick enough to ride against the bearing when routed horizontally, I use the fence on my router table to hold the piece in a vertical position while I run the edge across the router bit.

I also stand boards on end and round over edges. I do use a stop pin as I bring the piece in to the bit when routing edges.

I really like the Quadra cut router bits. Much less tear out.
