Well i finally finished my wifes CHRISTMAS GIFTS. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought i would show some of you guys. It was alot of fun but more a learning experience. I am really new to woodworking but man do i love
it! I made the headboard and nightstand out of Honduran Mahagony and 1/2 steel rod. I used a dull razor blade to chizle the sides and also to take chunks out of the wood. I also took carriage bolts cut them down and grinded the heads so they don't look new. My wife helped build the nightstand which was nice. I think i might have started her a new
hobby. Here are some pics.

It is really hard to see but there are chunks taking out of the wood everywhere to make it look old. The stain really accents those spots.

As you can see in this pic my flash on the camera works quite well;) .

The Nightstand is a little smaller than we orginally thought but it works!

My favorite part about this pic is the fact that all the carriage bolts aren't in a line. I thought by putting them in a random line will help the look come to life.

Here is the frame for the nightstand. I had to modify some drawer slides to the correct size and also modified them to work on the bottom insted of the sides.

I think she had too much fun doing this!

Way to go, Josh. Looks like it came from a pirate ship or something, and the "distress" job does indeed make the whole thing look like it's been around a long time. Did you do the welding, too (like for the nightstand frame)?

- Vaughn

P.S. I like the flames on the washer. Now you need to paint a splash graphic on the dryer. :)

Great work Josh! The first thing I thought of when I saw the head board was an old wooden ship portal. Keep up the good work.

Great work, Josh!

BTW, I found it hilarious that when I clicked on the picture of your wife using the box knife, cutting toward her thumb, the advertisement just below the picture was for a first aid kit. ;-)

Jim Dandy effort there, Josh. How is it for squeaks?

Looks like it will stand the test of time.

Thanks for all the complements. Yeah i did all the welding myself. It was fun. My dad taught me how to weld years ago. I didn't even catch my washer machine in the back of the pic until you all pointed it out. I painted that about 2+ years ago. I was supposed to paint the dryer but as you all saw i haven't got to it yet.:D I used to paint cars and motorcycles. I have done alot of custom paint jobs. I love to share my custom painting years if anyone wants to see some pics. Thanks again for the complements. :)

Yer new around here aren't ya son? ;)

You're asking SMC if they want to see pics? That's a silly question. I know I'd like to see some paint jobs, and I'm sure others here would too. Sounds like they'd fit right in with the other stuff in the Off Topic forum. Bring em' on. :D
