I this company still in business, shutdown for Covid-19 or permanently?

Website say they have temporarily halted production but the latest date I can find on the website is 2010. Linked sales website only has an email for parts and accessories.

Seemed like a good unit from a website, again without dates so cannot tell how dated it is.

If so I guess the Leigh would be next best choice?

I know nothing about Akeda, do however own a Leigh D3 dovetail jig. I used it for the third project Friday night 20 1/2" wide dresser. Thru dovetails all 4 corners, has been over a year since I used it and after reading in the past about how horrible it is to set up. I read a few sections of the manual again to set it up, double checked it and found a few lose screw where I had changed adjustments. Cut one side then, changed over and cut one trial piece, moved the template one notch and cut all of the second sides. Glued it up, tapped it together with a dead blow hammer, very happy with how all joints fit and look. No filling anywhere, all dovetails are different width per my preference. Sand down with belt sander and move on. Drawers will get dovetailed next. I have cut dovetails by hand and never again if I can avoid it. If I had to cut all dovetails equal width then I would use a different joint, just my personal preference.
Good luck with which one you get
Ron

Here's a link to an eight-year-old SMC thread about Akeda being unable to fulfill orders. https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?184503-What-s-up-with-the-Akeda-jig

Thank you. Seems it's unobtainable for the foreseeable future.

So back to my original choices of PC or Leigh.

For a while they were sold exclusively through Woodcraft. I think they closed out there stock around 2008-2009. Haven't heard about it since.

I picked up the jig at my local Woodcraft on a close-out for about $50 back in 2009/2010 timeframe; it was cheap and I had heard good things. It seemed pretty solid and nicely made. I never really had a chance to mess with it over all the years. There was a Canadian site, the Jig Store, that had lots of their stuff but I don't see it up any more.

I still have my Akeda DC-16. Don't use it any more as the house is FULL of furniture; no mo' room "she who is to be obeyed" says. Willing to part with it.
