I have a bunch of contour bandsawing to do so decided it was a good time to do something about the ineffective dust collection on my Grizzly 0513 17" bandsaw.

The solution I came up with is really simple and quite effective so I thought I would share.

4" pvc drain tile pipe
Cut end of pipe to ~45°
Cut a slot for the lower rear blade guide (I just physically lined up the pipe and marked it in place).
Drill a hole for 1/4" bolt to attach to the arc slot in the table trunnion.

Easy to remove by simply unscrewing the wing nut and pulling off.

Noticeable air movement at the throat plate (after two hours of sawing significantly less dust accumulation of dust than when using stock port).

Should accommodate a full range of blade sizes.

Unfortunately this solution will not permit the table to tilt.

Ask questions if you've got 'em.

Be well!

I like it . I used the Rob Cosman version of that , and it really helps . I have to remove it to tilt the table , which is very rare . Dual 4" ports should really "suck" . Sorry , couldn't help it .

I take it you have to either remove the door or leave it open?

I take it you have to either remove the door or leave it open?

It fits above the door and below the table. The door swings freely and zero modification to the saw itself.

I was just cutting for over an hour and had maybe 1/2 a cup of chips in the bottom of the saw using only the new port.

It looks good, good for you. I have to tilt my table pretty regularly so I wouldn't be able to do it on my saw.

Kevin,
Nice job! I have been thinking about doing something similar on my Grizzly G0640X 17" bandsaw, but hadn't yet decided exactly how to accomplish it. You have definitely given me a few ideas.
Thanks,
David

Same idea as my "Top Tip" in Wood magazine on collecting dust on a 14" band saw.
