Looking for a good sawmill/lumber yard in the Harrisburg area. I'll be making a trip soon and as the prices are much better there then here I'd like to pick up a load of rough walnut and maybe cherry. If you know of anything within an hour or so please drop me a note.

Thanks

Bob,
Not sure of your one hour limit, but Groff & Groff is my favorite vendor. 717-284-0001. Good selection of domestics and some tropicals/imports.

Bob,

Try www.woodfinder.com (http://www.woodfinder.com), put in the zip code, distance, etc.

Also do some searches on this forum for "amish", "swearing", and the likes. There is an Amish guy in the Harrisburg/York area that someone from MD buys from and says that they have really great prices and selection. They don't allow swearing!

Bob,
Roger had a trip down here recently though was looking at yards a bit further south:

Straight sown 83 is Wilke Machinery as well if you have any interest.

Also, a little sawmill Hollister's is along the river just south of Rt 30, though usually only open on Saturday AM. PA hardwoods only.

Also, over in Reading is Industrial Plywood:

If you come down 283 there is Middletown lumber - a bit more of a conventional yard with some neat stuff as well - their site is down it seems.

Thanks Guys, for some reason Rogers post just turned up so I've got some leads.

Alan, I found a place about 100 miles west of Harrisburg but was hoping to find something closer. I'm figuring I'll be carting 1000lbs of wood home from Harrisburg so the shorter the better. The hour or so is just a figure I tossed in the post.

Wes, thanks for the links, I'll do some reading.

I've no relation to this supplier. They're located about 40 min north of Harrisburg, along the Susquehanna River.

Hi everyone I am new on this and have never been on a on line page before and dont even know how to start my own thread, but just a question or input to anyone.
I am from Belize CA and have my hands on 400-500 year old honduran mahogany anywhere from 24" to 108" or 2ft to 9ft thick and about 30-59ft long very limited supply and wondering what to do with it? dont really want to sell it to big mills this is a once in a life time chance to get honduran mahogany this old or this big. is there a market for it?

Try Grof & Grof in Quarryville, which is about 7 or 8 miles south of Lancaster, PA. Excellent quality and decent prices.
