Noticed one of the egg beaters hanging up in the shop...was getting a few rust spots.....basement shop, go figure.

Wire wheel to clean things up. A drop of 3in1 oil where needed....add a drill bit, and test drive....nice and quiet, and fast..

Yeah, yeah..just a single speed, single pinion drill...
427551
Didn't find much in the way of Maker's Marks...
427552
Only thing on the gear crank, was a "Made in USA"....the chuck?
427553
No markings...3 jaws....might be a 1/4" chuck?

It was at the end of the top handle, were things got...special.....

You move that tab around to the left...and a access hole opens up, for bit storage...I guess that is better than those wooden caps most drills use?

Now, I just have to find out who made this drill....

I guess I have an alcohol problem. When you mentioned looking for Makers Mark I was thinking of whiskey. Lol

If you coat it with floor wax, it will not rust.

Hmm...

The real question here is.....what company made a drill that used this method of storing bits in the handle.....?

Happen to have both a Stanley Handyman drill, and a Stanley Defiance drill...placed them with the Mystery drill...
427593
Some things are close...
427594
427595
Only the Mystery drill can install that side handle. Defiance has a few other items..
427596
It has a double pinion drive. The knob on the crank is different. And..it has a thicker drive gear...like a M-F #5....

Hear is a thought...the red colour is more like the shade Stanley used on their Victor line of tools.....could be......

There was a rumour when I bought this egg beater drill....of it being brought back home from Germany.....yet, it is stamped as being "Made in USA"?

So far...it is not: Millers Falls....Goodell-Pratt....Stanley Handyman....Pilot/Granit....so who else is out there making these drills?

Let this drill sit a spell...have two others that were just hanging around....
427793
A wee bit bigger than the last three....Gray Frame MIGHT be a M-F No. 78....made for..
427794
Sears Craftsman. The other, even larger drill..
427795
Is a Millers Falls No. 2-01..
427796
Needs cleaned and oiled ....not much else...The Craftsman had a couple bits in the hollow handle..
427797
But, they don't match what was in the chuck..
427798
Drill Point? Hmmmm....will tear these two down a bit, and clean them up....and hang them back up....
