I’m interested in buying a “raster” laser machine for hobby use.

Somewhere in the area of 12“ x 18” bed size.

I’m not interested in high power For cutting, 40 watts would be fine. I mainly want to do raster engraving.

Can anybody recommend something for this purpose

Thanks,
Chuck

Have a look at the Aeon Mira 5, I have one with a 30w metal tube, so just air cooled. Great for engraving, but I wouldn’t use it for cutting anything thicker than card.

Thanks for the Inputs, Julian and Bert.

The price of these machines are a bit higher than what my budget will allow.

Does anybody know Is there anything out there in the $2000-3000 range? Less than 40 watts would be fine. I would like to have a turn key set up. Really not interested in building one from a kit.

Basically I’m just looking for for “Raster” engraver.

Thanks,
Chuck

A Mira 5 might be within your price range if you ordered it direct from the factory rather than go through a local reseller. Just do a search on Alibaba.

This looks like a nice used laser it says year 2000 but the label says 2016

I’ll have to do more research on the price. Initial numbers appeared to be in the $4000 to 5 range

Looks interesting,
A friend was telling me about a universal laser and how much he liked it.

I will definitely look into this one.

I understand what you’re saying. I would prefer paying more money for a “plug and play “

This looks like a nice used laser it says year 2000 but the label says 2016

the machine IS a 2000, the label:
427141

The 2016 label is attached to the laser itself-
427142

Since there's a factory Uni label on the laser, I would wager that indicates the tube was rebuilt, but not sure...
Still, looks like a good machine, price isn't bad, probably many years left in it...

My BIL owns my old 1997 Uni -rebranded New Hermes- that I bought well used in '02, not a day goes by it doesn't see at LEAST 6 hours use,
and other than a tube replacment that it didn't really need, nothing has ever failed...knock on my head ;)
427144
I have NOTHING bad to say about Universal lasers, I'm surprised I've never gotten another one...

Good question Bert.

What I meant was as long as I can cut a minimal thickness like 1/8 of an inch, that would be fine.

I actually have a 180 W laser for cutting but it will not do “raster” Engraving.

Speak to the company, they sold me just one machine and even arranged air freight to my door.

Like they say “you snooze you lose”.

I was working with the seller on a shipping quote and it’s sold during that process.

I’ll keep looking,

Lightobject dot com sells a wonderful 40 watt machine and I have had mine for 2 years or so. Did nothing but open the box and turn it on. Based in California.

Its in my Signature line but they changed the name to Solo. Not selling mine, just noting other than unpacking and hooking it up that's it!

Gentlemen,

Keith,

I totally understand.

I’m trying to get recommendation on a good machine within a given price range, since there are so many laser engraver’s/cutters out there, I need to narrow it down based on real users experience.

Once I get some firm recommendations I will definitely check the classified area of this forum.

I am mainly interested in a raster engraving machine priced at under $3000. 40 W is plenty of power for any cutting I will be doing on it.

So far I have several recommendations but they were all quite a bit above the $3000 threshold.

Regards,
Chuck
