Here are a couple cherry bowls I just finished up using the new vacuum chuck. Wow is that a lot easier to finish up the bottoms with.:D

These two bowls I corded from the same blank. They are 9" x 3-1/4" x 3/8" and 6-1/2" x 2" x 1/4". The finish is beall buff only.

The thing that I found while buffing these is that they come out better with the lathe going faster. I decided to use the Jet Mini to buff with and thought it was set at 1200 rpm. I started it up and started buffing and it seemed fast and in checking it again I saw it set at 1800 rpm. I was doing a good job so I just kept going with it at that speed. I have gotten some good finishes off the beall but nothing like this, these bowls shine.:D I will try it again with a different type of wood to see if it make a difference.

Thanks for looking.

Dick those are beautiful. I can't believe just by looking at them that there is no finish on them. Those things do shine. Nice job.

Dick - If memory serves, Beall recommends a 1725 rpm setting, which means that you error was to the better.

I had been buffing at 2400, but then read something about 1800 so I tried that and didn't like it. I get a much better buff with a higher speed, especially in cold weather. Nice bowls, dick!

Beautiful, Dick, just beautiful. I love that cherry.

I thought about getting one of the vaccum chucks but decided to hold off 'cause I'm now thinking about getting out of wood work and taking up fishing again. Don't want to be spending money on tools at this time.......

Beautiful bowls. I think I'm going to have to try that buffing only finish. Looks great!! I really like the shape of them and the bottoms are artistry. Nothing sets a piece off more than a fine looking bottom. In my opinion anyway.

Kent, if you hurry you can beat Ken Fitzgerald to the punch.

Wait a minute! What am I saying? Take your time, Ken has to fix his garage door again and that will take at least a year or two!

PS: I lived in Vallejo for a spell and raised a few frames up that way - Mt. Veeder, Oakville Grade, and Angwin. Miss the weather!
