I am considering buying a small air compressor and nail guns. So far I have found a P C 6g pancake compressor with an 18 gauge brad nailer, 16 gauge brad nailer, and a 1/4" crown stapler on sale at home depot for $299. Sears has a similar package with the same three types of nail guns and a small compressor for $299 also.

The Sears compressor is oil lubed which I believe are supposed to last longer than the oil-free compressors such as this Porter cable one offered.

Here are the links to each compressor.

Craftsman compressor (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00916637000&tab=spe#tab)

Porter Cable compressor (http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1561281307.1135289431@ @@@&BV_EngineID=ccccaddgifhimllcgelceffdfgidgmm.0&CNTTYPE=PROD_META&CNTKEY=misc/searchResults.jsp&MID=9876&N=2984+3966&pos=n24)

Which combo would you recommend?

Thanks

Oil-less compressors are much louder then the oil type. On the other hand, you'll need to change the oil from time to time. If it was me, oil type gets the nod.

The only thing nail-gun users seems to agree on is that "They Don't Make em Like They Used to." I would research the warranties on the two you are considering, find out in plain English just whose warranty is longer and more comprehensive, and buy that brand.
That said, I use daily a PC pancake compressor which REFUSES TO DIE, and believe me, I've tried to kill it. It is loud in a "is the earth falling apart" kind of way, and since it still works, I haven't researched its replacement, though I think I'll eventually go for an oil-filled model. Good luck.
