View Full Version : Cleaned up a Millers Falls No. 3 Hand Drill today

This thing was covered in rust and was all gunked up. Really difficult to turn. I should’ve taken a before pic, but forgot. Sorry!

I’m out of paint stripper. Need to pick some up. Next step is removing the japanning and painting.

Millers Falls No. 3 – I believe from 1910-1915 (based on oldtoolheaven)

Soaked in vinegar, cleaned up metal parts on wire wheel then steel wool, sanded wood and applied boiled linseed oil & paste wax, greased & oiled. Works like new.

Nice cleanup indeed, looks great! Personally, I think it looks perfect as-is, with all the patina from 100+ years on display to show that it earned its keep.

Nice. I found a pretty clean 5A in the wild a few years ago. It's a great Neander hand drill. Very smooth operation.
