So what's the consensus? Not mine, just altering I ran across on Facebook.

I think you should wait a year and see what they are like.

All these years and I've never had a use for a piece of wood cut like that.

What are they used for if they survive? What are they good for if they crack?

I did not mean "What are you thinking?" like "Hey Dummy, what are you thinking". More like "Cool wood, what are we going to make out of it?" Just want to be clear.:D

I'm thinking a dresser with Intarsia ends, and maybe wrap the design all the way around. A tree of life sort of thing comes to mind. Could have some huge relief with wood that thick.

That log is just a log, lets think out of the box. It was too short anyway.

what a waste. could have been cut to make good turning blanks. Now it's just firewood.

Agreed. I've never seen a cookie table that I found remotely attractive.

I saw a reasonable use once. A relative obtained a bunch of cookies and placed them on tables at a wedding reception, vases and such on top. Looked rustic and elegant in the rough-hewn beam lodge housing the event. After the event they were discarded.

People are offering those on FB all the time. If they can't sell you a live edge slab, maybe you'll buy a cookie.

From the surface cracking and appearance of the log, it looks like it may have been down, or standing deadwood, so maybe there won't be as much cracking as expected. I can see someone like Doug Fisher (https://theavenuegallery.com/artwork/overlapping-impressions-douglas-fisher/) turning one of those thicker cookies into some impressive wall art.

I have a 5" thick cookie of 42" diameter cottonwood, about 5 years old now. Not even cracked. Just sitting there, eventually to be cut up into really bad firewood.

I like cookies. A lot! Just not that texture, though.

I think that you are ignoring the possibilities; in no particular order:

Target for an ax or firearm.
small round coffee tables.
Cut them square or rectangular for some interesting patterns.
Firewood
Wheels on your Fred Flinstone car if you cannot afford stone wheels.

I like cookies too, just with a little less fiber. And a few raisins are nice too.

I'm guessing that's just a typo? Should be 'sinner'.

Cookies by definition pretty much suck but.......

This is the only cookie I've ever done and for whatever reason it has not checked in a couple of years.

Is that burl wood? Could that explain the lack of cracks?

Bill McNiel

Yes, David, it does have a fair amount of burl so that may have helped along with it being in a relatively climate controlled environment.
