British saw, 2" cutting depth for the 10" version (seems deep: deflection risk?). Can't seem to find any information about its thickness or set. 20 tpi. Priced (£125) above the Lie-Nielsen ($125). Any Creekers want to speak up for this tool?

Fine steel, excellent presentation out of the box, clumsy handle. A "test drive" one before buying will tell you if it fits your grip.

I don't have the dovetail saw, but the Pax handsaw I bought came quite dull out of the box. Additionally the photo on this Amazon review (https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2KKB3RCIQYE95/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B077XT2Q9D) indicates that the grain direction in the handle is incorrect, which is why it broke. For less money the Lie-Nielsen seems like a no-brainer. The Veritas is probably a better saw too for a little more than half the price.

Bob, is the LN saw you mention at $125 the one in SMC classifieds?

It seems the seller has it listed at the price for new, only it comes with the leather case.

I bought an 8" Pax dovetail saw, and a 4-1/2 pt. 26" rip saw back in the '70's. The steel is fine, and they can be sharpened nicely, but they didn't come very sharp, and the handles are slightly shaped from flat.

The LN saws seem to be a real bargain for their price. I would have probably bought them if they were available before I bought all the old ones I use. That Pax was the only new backsaw I've ever bought, and I wasn't overly impressed with it from the start.

Yes, I saw that, but far be it from me to step in and comment on that.

Charles, yes, those Brits came through for the home-country tool. That's the article that got me thinking about starting this post.

Chris Gochnour ended up liking the saw apparently. He's not British FWIW.

I bought a Pax sash saw, and steel/sharpening was excellent. The handle (walnut) was blocky, but a half hour with a rasp and some sanding corrected it. A bit of BLO and looked like new.

I have a thin plate LN, and, for the price, the saw is a real bargain.
