With the nice comments on my last posting of Christmas turnings, I thought I would show you what I finished last night. It is 6 1/2 inches across and 3 3/4 inches tall. I made the glue up by using 2 inch walnut, cherry and oak veneer, and spalted maple with walnut spacers. The wall range from 3/16 to 5/16 inch thick. The rim turned out taller than I had intended originally, but when I got the this stage, it looked good to me. So I left it. The finish is linseed oil and blond shellac.

John -
Great form and wood selection. Could you post some larger photos? The details between the laminate layers is surely worth a closer look.
Thanks for sharing!

Segmented hollow forms have always fascinated me, as does this one. Thanks.
But they also mystify me. I for one would love to see a photo series depicting the planning, cutting, glue up, and initial turning phases.

Nicely done, John! I especially like the "pinstriping" in between the layers. Adds a very classy look to it.:)

Very nice HF, John. I especially like the choice of woods.
Bill S.,
thanks for the link. Looks like worthwhile software for someone doing a lot of segmented turning.
