I picked up a floor model spindle sander from a cabinet shop that was closing and it came with a big box of sleeves and some random parts. This looks like a spindle but it has a center rod the spins freely. It doesn’t fit my sander but I can’t figure out what that free spinning rod and the conical area to the top is for. Any ideas?

It is a spindle for something. Looks like a draw bar like you find in some shaper spindles. Maybe it was used in a spindle sander that has this same sort of design to hold it in place ?

Numerous spindle Sanders had tapers with threads.

Looks just lie the ones with my State T5 spindle sander. The cone fits into the drive, the spinning rod threads it on to the drive.

If you don't need it I'd be happy to have a chance to buy it from you. These go missing from many sanders.

Looks like it's a spindle from a State spindle sander of some flavor. Sure confused me sitting with all the Jet spindles.
