When gluing up long miters, I like to use these glued on clamping cauls. They're glued on with a strip of paper in between. After the cauls have served their purpose, they can be peeled right off and the joint will split along the paper layer. The paper and glue is then just sanded off for a nice tight joint.

Yes ,that paper thing has a number of uses. Brown grocery bags work the best for me. I'm saving some because they
are rapidly being replaced with plastic. Some thin papers , like news print ,don't work well because the glue saturates
through to the wood. That's agravating and makes for more work.

+1 on this technique. I learned about it only this past year and used it on a mitered dovetail table. I did not use paper, and sawed off the cauls with a Japanese saw. In my case I could not use a continuous caul so I made a series small enough to fit in between the dovetail joints.
