I have a giant miter saw, 28 inches long, 5 inch wide plate and I’m wondering what brand/model model box it would fit in?

I’m not sure I am going to use the miter box very often - seems like a pretty big commitment shop space etc., but i’d like to try it out and see you. Maybe helpful for projects With lots of same same size components or building small batch of multiple boxes etc.? For those of you with miter boxes, how often do you use them?

Thanks advance for your advice and suggestions. I confess I am really confused by nomenclature of various manufacturers/models etc. and very much appreciate the help!

Best, Mike

With a 5" saw you will have to be picky. Here is a page from a Langdon manual:

423369

The 4" saws will work in a miter box made for 5" saws. They tend to not work the other way around.

If you look at the Stanley miter box manual, you will likely find similar information. This was found by searching > Stanley miter box instruction <

There are likely many other free miter box manuals out there.

Stanley: Would be a No. 358 model. #3 is the size of the mitre box frame, #5 is for the height of the saw, below the saw's spine/back. #8 is for 28" TOTAL length of the saw's plate.
Langdon No. 74 used a 28" long saw, the No. 75 uses a 30" long saw.

I use the mitre boxes about every project.....90 degree cuts that do not need a shooting board afterwards....about any angle you would wish to cut, can be set on the box's quadrant....add a wedge, and get even more angles. Mitre Boxes also can do crown molding cuts.
423370
On the latest box projects, needed to trim parts for length....remember to use the entire length of the saw's teeth....cuts quicker, that way.

Besides the height of the saw under the spine, make sure the spine fits the space in the guide, as well as enough clearance for the saw plate and the cut out for saw set.

You could get a Stanley 150 miter box they work with all sorts of saws. This video sold me on picking up one but I have not used it much yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7GY8cDs2tY

I have a Millers Falls Langdon 74 C. The 28 inch by 5 inch saw fits perfectly as speced by Jim's post. Try Craigs List as mitre boxes are heavy.

Actually, the 150 is one of the handiest miter boxes, very easy to adjust to square, vertically & horizontally, as as Justin stated, works (and/or adjusts) with many, many different saws.
