Good afternoon, I picked this buck brothers chisel up at an antique store. It is a .130" (1/8") mortise/firmer. Everything in my heart is telling me someone has put the edge on this chisel up side down. I have search al over the net for a clear pic of an 1/8" buck brothers chisel and have come up empty handed...even ebay.
Would anyone by chance have one handy or be so kind as to verify if my gut is correct or not...I have a hand full of Buck bros. Chisels but they are all marked on the top..423091

That looks like a very narrow chisel, maybe a 1/8". Those would be marked on the side, because there isn't room on the top of the chisel for a stamp.
If that is the case, then your chisel is sharpened correctly.

I used to have a similar narrow mortise chisel. It is correct.

It looks like a correctly ground sash mortice chisel.

Matthew,

I just wanted to add, from what I can see that is a fine looking chisel. I'm never so lucky.

Mine is also marked on the side:

423135

This is a bevel edged chisel and is sans the buck's head.

Matthew, yours may look odd since the mark appears to be upside down compared to others. To my recollection Bucks Brothers chisels at this time were not laminated so it shouldn't matter which side has the bevel.
