I am making a mortising jig (http://a4.cpimg.com/image/A6/15/54727334-199b-018B0200-.jpg) and want to get your advise. Should I make a square router plate to ride in the jig's recess. If I cut the recess to match my router's factory base plate, I am pretty much "stuck" using one router with the jig.
If the answer is "Yes" to a custom plate, is 1/4" Lexan a good choice and how do I cut it?

I'd use a template and a standard guide bushing that will screw onto most any router. Put it on when you want to router mortises and take it off for other routing needs....but....everyone needs at least 4 routers!!!!! :D

Are you refering to something like this (http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=4856)? If that's the case, then I already have it.

Unfortunatelly, the router base plate I linked to above, does not fit my plunge router. :(

Alex---Unless you are planning on replacing your plunge router, I would just go ahead and dedicate the jig to the router you already have. Not sure why you would need to use more than one router with the jig.

Dan,
Nope, I am not planning to replace my router any time soon - I guess it's the "what-if" syndrome... what if the router kicks the bucket tomorrow. :D
