What is the purpose of this door hardware?

I'm resizing a kitchen cabinet for a friend which may include reducing the height of this door by about 6" but this black hardware (on the left side) is in the way.

What is it's purpose?

I’ve seen something similar which was all thread and used to straighten a warped door.

I'm also guessing it's to keep the tall, narrow door flat...I've used steel to do that myself.

It's the Planofit system from Hafele to keep long doors straight. should have known, I've seen doors with steel angle inserted for this purpose.

Probably costs a lot more then a length of angle iron painted to match.
