One of the Christmas presents I create each year are water (or whatever) glasses I make from wine bottles.

The bottles are cut in an enclosed, oil cooled and automatically feed lapidary saw which has about a 20" blade. I dress the outer edges with a water cooled diamond grinding wheel and have been using a Dremel tool with a grinding bit (dry) specifically for glass but they wear down quickly and don't produce the smooth edge I'd like. You also have to be very carefull with heat build up or you'll chip/crack the glass.

I've Googled for a source of diamond wheels or cones that could partially fit into the glass to chafer off the sharp edge but to no avail. Mainly trying lapidary supply houses.

Anyone have a source or ideas for smoothing a glass edge??

Cheers,

Kent

kent, try the marble/granite industry, they use sanding pads in all sorts of odd shapes with diamond grit all the way to sobmicron level...02 tod

714 777-7144 or www.betadiamond.com (http://www.betadiamond.com)

I buy diamond paste for honing from them, very happy with price and service. They carry a wide range of diamond products, including abrasive wheels. <!--mstheme-->

www.hisglassworks.com (http://www.hisglassworks.com) is one of the leading sources in the country for those of us that work with glass. They'll be able to recommend something for you.
Fortunately for me, they are just across town from me.
