View Full Version : What to put opposite a planer flip cart?

I'm a member of a makerspace (picture shared workshop where we have a woodshop, metalworking, laser cutters, 3d printers, cat surgery stations, etc.) One of our members build a nice flip cart that we can have the dewalt planer on one side and something else on the other. We don't have anything for the B side yet though.

I'm curious to ask the collective brain trust here what might be good to put on the flipside, be it a tool we may or may not have.

I was initially thinking about one of our oscillating sanders, but those get too much use, and we have a dedicated area for those (with air filters, etc).

We have a lot of extra routers, so I was considering maybe a dedicated spot to do quarter roundover bit by making a small fixed table with a melanine surface.

The surface area we have to work with is about 20"x20". I'd like to put a small jointer for small work, but no jointer worth anything would fit in that small of a space.

Any suggestions?

Leave it be. If a need arises you'll see it.

I used to have one with a mortising machine, then a Ridgid sander.

I put a 12" disc sander and an oscillating spindle sander opposite my DW 735.

In your own shop, a keg with a nice tap, in a maker space a keg with no tap just to taunt the others.

Scroll saw? Drum sander.

From personal experience, I highly recommend mounting an old scroll saw under there, one from which all of the oil will drain when it's upside down.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Two items suggested which would make great sense since they are used infrequently are our mortising machine and scrollsaw. :)

I agree with Jim, an oscillating spindle sander is an ideal companion.

A second planer for when the knives get dull and you're in a hurry?
