Folks,

Does anyone have a source for rough, straight grained, clear cedar to make a hot tub? I live in Wisconsin.
thanks,

Stevo

If you're in the south central part of the state there's Cedar Direct on Hwy 151 near Dodgeville.

Can't speak to your wood source, but back in the 70's I was in the solar business and heated a lot of wood hot tubs with solar hot water. With 1.5-2" wall thickness, in the middle of a board 3-4" off the bottom I'd drill a close fitting hole to fit a 1/2x 3" brass nipple. Wipe the nipple with silicone and push it into the tight fitting hole. Put a 1/2 fem 90* adapter on the interior and sweat the copper to it. Do two wraps of 1/2 soft copper . Stand it off the side about 1/2 ". You can run it off whatever you like, but it is an good heating method.

Look for cypress. True cedar wouldn’t make a good tub.
Everyone calls cypress cedar.
