Do we have a chat room on sawmillcreek? If so what day and time is it open?

We don't have a chat room yet but we can certainly add one if everyone wants the capability. We have plenty of server horse power and bandwidth as well. Unfortunately I don't know a thing about chat, I type so slow it would be impossible for me to join in other than to lurk :)

I'll have Ray look into what our options are for software just in case there is interest in adding chat to "The Creek".

I know a thing or two about this one. ;)

We'll look into this functionality when Keith and I meet.

I am not normally a chat person, but thought it would be interesting, so if you proceed with this I hope you get some response from others than me or it will be a very dull conversation.:D

I suggested this to Keith privately by e-mail last week. I think it would be a great feature. Especially if it had a feature where you could simply click on a member's name who was online and invite them to chat on a specific topic. It sure would save a lot of e-mailing each other back and forth. It would be a way to go into more detail answers on a subject that you were trying to respond to in a reply post.

An "instant chat" feature would be cool. Since we can see who else is online, it could come in handy for asking follow up questions, etc.

I'd love to see a chatroom added to the site. Besides just being available for informal drop-ins, you could invite someone you noticed logged in to chat (or set your options to ignore invitations from all/particulars).

It would be great to have semi-regular chats on various topics. Ummmm..... turning? Finishing, Cabinet Making, etc.

A special chat event on box-making or arts and craft style work or jigs/fixtures.

People could even take responsibility for bringing in well-known woodworkers for special chatroom events.

Anyway, yeah, I'd love a chat room for this crowd.

I've never been in a chat room, not sure I ever will. I'm sure you already thought of it, but my recommendation would be only for registered users, otherwise all heck could break out. This goes along with the post about letting non-members post. Maybe a special pre-approved "visitors-pass" for those that you bring in from outside to host a chat, such as a representative from a company. Just my humble thoughts on this subject.
