My sister sent me this plane. Stamped Stanley on the body with a Sargent iron. Nothing else stamped on it. The bottom is curved as you can see, with a thin layer of what seems like a synthetic material on the sole, and the iron matches it. Some kind of scrub plane with a replacement iron?

The plane may have been modified by a previous owner for a specific purpose which could have been as a scrub plane.
It could have also been a sole replacement that was originally flat and constant use with a cambered blade wore the sole in to the shape of the iron.

The uniformity of the camber on the sole suggests a purpose built plane to me. Perhaps smoothing the inside of coopered construction?

Hmmm..maybe they can send it out to be ground flat?
Iron was a replacement iron the owner had on hand.....may have been an "after market, thicker" iron someone said was needed to make the plane "better" ?
Except....both my Stanley No. 35 and the Ohio No. 035....had thick, tapered irons...
