Here's a few pics of my 2nd bowl.
I intentionally left one side of the rim higher than the other because It looked cool  . Unfortunately it looked cool earlier, when the difference was much more pronounced - now I'm not sure I like it so I might chuck it back up & turn the rim even.
It was a battle to get this done because of my tool sharpenning woes we are discussing in Zacks gouge sharpening thread. I actually kind of gave up on it. I might get back to it & try to turn it smoother when my new turning tools come in.

I really like it - but I liked it more before I messed up the rim.

So far there are 2 coats of salad bowl oil finish - I forget the brand - I bought it at Woodcraft.

Thanks for looking.

Your bowl really looks great. I am still working on my first one. A chunk broke off the edge and I am attempting to repair it. I may have to start over.
Is that Maple?

Tom,

I'm not sure whats going on here. I've been reading your posts about you really are a flat wood worker but your plate has been so full you just havn't had time to work on any projects. Now just like that your second set of pictures on as many turnings. Oh Well! they say turning is addictive. Nice looking Bowl.

Don, yes it is Maple from a huge tree I cut down several years ago & just left lay there - hence the spalting. The tree was huge but there isn't a lot of good wood left - but enough to turn a bunch small bowls out of :D

Ron, That's just it - I have not been able to actually finish a project in a year - now I buy this cheap little lathe & can go out to the shop & in 2 hours have a finished project - & it looks better than anything else I've done :) Now I just need some sharp tools so it goes even faster and easier. I might be able to even make people Christmas presents this year - instead of just promising that I would like last year :(

Thanks Zack - I just need to make sure I don't take a class like yours - My wife would kill me If I bought the setup you're thinking about ;)

I really did not want to start turning till I got a better handle on flat work - but I got real tired of gluing up boards & not being able to get back to them for weeks at a time.
So I started in on the lathe - BIG MISTAKE  .
I still have a cutting board ,ready for the last glue up, buried under the stuff piled up on my TS outfeed table - I'll probably never get it finished now ;) .

Looks pretty good, Tom. My second bowl jumped off of the chuck, toward me, hit the ground in front of me, ran across the floor.

The foot makes the bowl look like it is melting into the table.
