Can anybody reccomend a vendor for purchasing fastening hardware (screws, bolts, etc) in bulk? I would like to start building a supply to have on hand, and I know that buying from the borg store is not the way to go. The little plastic packages of wood screws are pretty pricy. Can I buy them from somewhere in say, boxes of 100?

Try McFeely's. Nice selection, good prices, great service.

I second the McFeely's recommendation. Their web site is: http://www.mcfeelys.com/

Another McFeely's vote for screws. For nuts and bolts, I buy mine at Tractor Supply Co. They sell nuts bolts, and washers by the pound at pretty reasonable prices.

McFeelys for sure.

wow, that mcfeely's is awesome. I can get 100 #8x3/4s for about what I would pay for 10 at the Borg.

THANK YOU!

If you know exactly what you need and can afford the time delay for shipping, McFeely's is the way to go.

Since I'm nowhere near that organized :p, I like the local hardware store (an Ace, I think) which has an aisle of fasteners. The upper shelves are pull-out trays of loose bits (to figure out what size I need or if I only need one or two) and the bottom has bins of 100-count boxes, same stuff. But even at piece-part prices, much cheaper than the Borg.

(The one exception seems to be drywall screws, probably since they're a "construction" item rather than a "hardware" or "woodworking" item. There might be cheaper sources than my local HD for those, but I'm not sure it's worth the time to look for one.)

I also use McFeely's. In addition, many areas have local fastener distributors that offer a wide variety and lower pricing than the do-it-yourself stores. In my area we have Copper State Nut and Bolt, US Industrial Fastener of Arizona and a couple of others. Check your local Yellow Pages for distributors.

These are commercial accounts I use.
Baer sells to the public also.
HDL also has another public site.

We have an Agri-Supply ~30 miles from here that sells nuts, bolts, washers and lag screws by the pound. I use our Burney True Value for everything else i.e. screws in boxes of 100, square cut nails by the pound, etc.

Fastenal opened a store here about 6 months ago. They are still in the process of filling their shelves. I can get strap toggles(togglers) there while nobody else around here carries them. They are 100% better to use than traditional toggle bolts.

I have had great luck in the past finding unique fasteners at Jamestown Distributors. www.jamestowndistributors.com (http://www.jamestowndistributors.com) I am not sure how their prices compare but figured I would offer up another option. They grew out of the marine hardware world so they have a large selection of stainless steel and other corrosion resistant fasteners.
